"I've been working on a new electronic cash system that's fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party." - Satoshi Nakamoto 2008
Frequently asked questions
What is a P2P payment ring?
A wearable (a Ring or Bracelet) that allows you make payments to family, friends and colleagues. It may simply hold your private keys and they can be more complex and authorize P2P transfers and Bitcoin payments directly over Lightning and complex BLE mesh.
Orukka P2P allows you authroise P2P Transfers with no need for wallets or thurd parties.
What is Orukka P2P Payment Ring?
Orukka is designed for peer-to-peer Bitcoin payments over the Lightning Network and will be supported on the Monesave iOS/Android App for setup and connectivity.
The ring tracks steps, sleep, and wellness signals for on-body validation—a quick check that it’s really you—before a P2P transfer is authorized.
Why Orukka P2P Payment Rings are necessary?
When Satoshi Nakamoto first described Bitcoin in a 2008 whitepaper, the pseudonymous creator focused on the “peer-to-peer electronic cash” approach.
He proposed the cryptocurrency might one day become a popular way for people to pay for goods and services online.
But as Bitcoin’s value has grown over the years, the narrative has shifted (for good or for bad). Users have fallen into the trap of trivialising Bitcoin as mere “digital gold” — or as an inflation-resistant way to store wealth over time.
Bitcoin allows two strangers anywhere to securely send or receive value without a credit card company or payment processor in the middle.
It does this using a decentralized network of computers all over the world — all of which need to achieve consensus (or agree) about the current state of Bitcoin’s digital ledger. Nakamoto’s solution to this problem was via mining, which can be a time-consuming process.
The Lightning Network was invented, in part, to help Bitcoin function more like the digital cash that Nakamoto envisioned. It processes transactions “off-chain” much more quickly and cheaply than Bitcoin’s core blockchain — with fees that are typically fractions of a cent. Lightning transactions are also less energy intensive than transactions on the main blockchain.
Orukka P2P payment ring is the final piece of that puzzle. It is the hardware that would connect users to each other for P2P by a simple tap of your ring.
What’s the relationship between the Orukka P2P Ring, the Monesave app, Lightning Network, and Bitcoin?
- Orukka P2P Ring: Your Orukka smart ring for P2P payments is configured to use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Mesh and signs payments—keys stay with you.
- Monesave App: is the orchestrator. It configures the Orukka P2P Rings, shows/creates Lightning connections. Once your ring is configured on the app, you cannot to your Bitcoin wallet for P2P Payments. Popular wallet options include both “custodial” and “non-custodial” wallets. Here’s the difference:
- Custodial wallets: These tend to be good for beginners, because they simplify the sending and receiving crypto by managing your private keys. If, for instance, you lose your password, you’ll be able to reset it. Options include Monesave Lightning, Wallet, Strike, Blue Wallet, and Wallet of Satoshi.
- Non-custodial wallets: These wallets are user-controlled and popular with more experienced traders — nobody but you has your private keys. If you lose or damage your wallet or forget your password, you could lose access to your funds. So make sure you learn how to back up or restore whichever wallet you choose. Options include Muun, Breez, Phoenix, and Zap.
- Lightning Network: The instant payment rail. Once you approve, the app routes the payment across Lightning with low fees and immediate confirmation.
- Bitcoin (on-chain): The settlement layer. Channels open/close here. Bitcoin uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority or banks; managing transactions and the issuing of bitcoins is carried out collectively by the network. Bitcoin is open-source; its design is public, nobody owns or controls Bitcoin and everyone can take part with their Orukka P2P.
In short the flow is as follows: Orukka P2P Payment = P2P Ring → Monesave App → Lightning Network → Bitcoin = Complete P2P Payment.
No banks or centralized exchanges are required in the flow.
Does Orukka P2P ring require a centralized exchange?
No. Orukka is self-custodial and routes over Lightning; no Banks/Coinbase/Binance or any Central Exchange account is required.
However, users may choose to route payment to their Bank or Monesave app, subject to connectivity to the bank (Geographical restriction and Compliance may be required by Banks).
